# Update Workspace

> PATCH /v0/workspaces/:id — Rename or describe a workspace

Updates `name` and/or `description` (at least one). Requires `manageWorkspace` (internal admins); works on archived workspaces too. MCP: `workspace_update`. CLI: `rip workspace update <workspace-id> [--name --description]`.

**Auth:** `Authorization: Bearer tr_...` (an account API key). `{id}` is the workspace UUID.

## Request body

| `name` | string | One of | Trimmed; must not be blank. At most 255 characters |
| `description` | string \| null | One of | `null` clears it |

Returns the updated workspace (see [Get Workspace](/api-reference/workspaces/get)).

## Errors

| Status | Code | Cause |
| - | - | - |
| `400` | `INVALID_INPUT` | Neither field is present |
| `400` | `INVALID_NAME` | `name` is blank |
| `404` | `WORKSPACE_NOT_FOUND` | No workspace with that id |
| `403` | `WORKSPACE_FORBIDDEN` | You are not an internal admin |
